Many Magnificent Marketing Methods (online that is)

Article by Jo Richardson

There are many aspects to online marketing. Here are four methods that do not get a lot of attention, but are certainly addressed when putting together an marketing campaign (usually unconsciously).

Old is the New “New”Most products contain rehashed information – maybe given a new slant or been given a catchy title (it is all about catchy titles these days). But although it might be better written and the links to relevant sites are new – the info probably is not. Nothing wrong with this.

One thing I have noticed is that if you read any two ebooks on any given topic, one of those books will make more sense to you. Even though the info is the same, the way it is presented seems to ‘click’ better. The energy behind the info seems more appealing. If you are a laid back type of person, you will probably not appreciate the hard hitting ‘in your face’ type of writing.

Perceived ValueMost people have a price limit in mind when purchasing a physical book – maybe to . It is hard to shake. Now if you were to convert that book into an ebook. You could find yourself shelling out over 0 for a trade manual that is only 30 to 40 pages. Why? Perceived value. When selling ebooks, the value is in the information – not in the physical aspects. It is very difficult to put a specific value on information. What is valuable to one may be a bunch of dribble to another.

The Persona is Quicker than the EyeMost marketers write under more than one name. They do not make it widely known but it happens. Working from behind your PC screen means that you can be anyone at all. You can develop different personalities for different aspects of your marketing. There’s nothing wrong in this. Famous authors do it. Gurus do it.

If you are trying something unusual or away from your usual brand, think about using another name to do it with. If John Johnson, writing as Trixie LaMuff delivers first class info that can used to boost your online business, you should not care which name, or even gender, is correct. It is the content that matters.

SEO Myth. Search Engine OptimizationMuch money is spent getting to the top of search engine rankings. I have heard it said that SEO is a load of cr_p. What little part of it works is so tenuous that it is not worth doing. Search engines change their rules all the time. You may get some results for a month, maybe two. But before you know it, you will be back at square one. Trying to learn and implement the ‘new’ rules that have been introduced.

So, the “myth” is, if you got yourself at the number one position of the search engines, then you would most definitely increase your traffic, thereby increasing your profit margins. What IS true is that if you were ranked number one, you MIGHT see an increase in the amount of traffic, or visitors, to your website. What is MYTH is that just because you would get those visitors you would earn more money. Think about it rationally. You could have a thousand visitors a day but if your web page is not doing its job properly, you are not going to make much more money. Put your money into producing solid sales copy.

In closing, internet marketing is an ongoing game. You need to see the funny side of it and not take it too seriously. Until next time…take care.
